Bachfest!

Yukon Early Music presents BACHFEST – Yukon’s first Baroque music festival February 13-15, celebrating the music of JS Bach. Bachfest brings together local musicians and visiting Baroque music specialists from Vienna, Montreal, Victoria and Vancouver for performances and workshops over the weekend.

J.S. Bach (1685-1750) has been one of the most influential composers in the western classical tradition. His approach to chord progressions and counterpoint have influenced all western music since.

Visiting musicians include Marco Vitale, a harpsichord specialist and Baroque opera director from Vienna; Paul Luchkow, an early music violinist from Victoria; members of the early music vocal group ArtChoral Janelle Lucyk, Rosalie Lane Lépine, Kerry Bursey, and William Capitaine Kraushaar from Montreal; with Edgar Bridwell a Baroque violist from Vancouver and Anne Duranceau a continuo and early low strings specialist from Vancouver.

Local musicians taking part include Toby Moisey, Barry Kitchen, Meta Epstein, Katie Avery, Sarah Jane Poirier, Donna Reimchen, Ben Johnston-Urey, C.D. Saint, Vincent Larochelle, Karen Zaidan, Pam Sinclair, Logan Bennett, and Yukon Community Choirs (Confluence Chorus, Persephone Singers, and Alluvia Voices).
